We all know that July 4th is a celebration of our nation’s independence from the British Empire in 1776. Independence Day is most commonly associated with fireworks, friends, family and barbeque picnics. Food will bring people together no matter the occasion. With food we celebrate life, friendships, gratefulness and especially our freedom.

In 1789 our forefathers of our great nation wrote these words:

We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

To ensure power to the people, our Constitution established a separation of powers within the government and a guarantee of our rights. There have been 27 ratified (state adopted) amendments in our Nation’s history. The first 10 are known as the Bill of Rights:  Freedom of Speech, Right to Bear Arms, Right to Remain Silent to name a few.

We celebrate this July 4th, our freedom not only from the British Empire but also the freedoms given to us by our forefathers and defended by our brave. We celebrate our freedom to assemble (1st Amendment) and our right to equal protection from individual States to deprive our liberties defined in the constitution (14th Amendment). We peacefully assemble as a Private Membership Association to exercise our right to privately choose what foods we deem as healthy and nutritious. We choose assembly to prevent the government or agencies from telling us we must use chemicals or process foods, or that food given to us by our Creator is not good enough. We demand to know where our food comes from and how the plants and animals were raised.

We, the membership, choose to source natural and sustainably grown foods for our families, recognizing the importance of nourishment and health.

We thank you for choosing to be a member of Weekly Fig, PMA and exercising your food freedom rights. We are grateful for the men and women in our history that courageously stood up for what is right and for our freedoms. All gave some, and some gave all.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.
